Overview
This four-day double gorilla trekking safari will bring you to the only location in the country where mountain gorillas can be found. You will have the opportunity to spend an hour with these endangered creatures and witness their everyday activities, such as hunting, nesting, and silverback patrolling. While on your trip to Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwest of Rwanda, you may choose to either track multiple gorilla families to observe their similar behaviors or focus on one family. To achieve this, you must inform your local tour operator in advance, so they can notify the rangers who group people at the briefing point.
During your four-day double gorilla trekking adventure, you will gain a deeper understanding of the park and its inhabitants, and have the chance to see various wildlife species, including monkeys, golden monkeys, buffaloes, hyenas, bushbucks, giant forest hogs, and numerous primates. With over 10 mountain gorilla families available, you have many options for your double trekking safari.

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to volcanoes national park
On the first day of 4 days double gorilla trekking safari, our English-speaking safari guide will pick you up from your hotel or Kigali international airport He will first brief you on the entire safari before transferring you to Musanze province, which is home to Volcanoes National Park. When you arrive at Volcanoes National Park, you will check into your booked accommodation, eat lunch, and then prepare for the big day tomorrow. After dinner and an overnight stay, you can participate in optional activities such as nature walks and community visits.

Day 2: Encounter mountain gorillas first time
On the second day of your 4 days double gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda you will wake up to an early morning breakfast after which the driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity. From the briefing, the amazing mountain gorilla trekking activity will start and the armed ranger guides will lead you through the different park trails.
While hiking through different trials of Virunga Mountains inside volcanoes national park looking for mountain gorillas, you will see a number of animals like the elephants, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, duikers, giant forest hogs, bird species, and different primates among others.
On meeting the mountain gorilla family you have been looking for, you will get to learn more about their habits by observing them do daily activities like hunting food, breastfeeding, nesting, and much more, you can take photos but using flashless cameras. After spending good time with endangered mountain gorillas, you will descend to the starting point, collect your trekking certificate, and your safari guide will transfer you to the lodge for lunch, an evening relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Encounter mountain gorillas the second time and visit twin lakes
Similar to the previous day, you will be asked to wake up early in the morning and have breakfast. Afterwards, your driver-guide will take you to a briefing point where you will join other trekkers for instructions. The briefing will include guidelines for mountain gorilla trekking, including what to do and what not to do. After the briefing, the rangers will group you according to your preferences – if you want to trek the same gorilla family as before, you can let them know, or if you want a different one, you can inform them.
During your jungle expedition to search for the mountain gorilla family, you’ll have armed ranger guides accompanying your group. Upon discovering them, you’ll be able to spend an hour observing the gorillas in their natural surroundings, taking photographs, and learning about their behaviors. As you journey through the jungle, you’ll have the chance to see a variety of park animals and birds and experience different types of vegetation. Once your hour is over, you’ll return to your starting point, meet your driver guide, and head back to the lodge for lunch.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali
On the final day of your four-day double gorilla trekking safari, you’ll have breakfast in the morning, pack up, and check out of your lodging. The driver guide will be ready to take you to Kigali city or the Kigali international airport. You’ll enjoy lunch on the way. If you have time, you might choose to participate in additional activities such as touring the city, exploring local markets for souvenirs, and visiting the Kigali genocide museum to learn about the 1994 Rwanda genocide.
